Rotherfield St Martin June Report - Jo Evans BEM
Another action filled month for Rotherfield St Martin. Andy Miler kicked us off with a photo show of his holiday in Vietnam, Laos & Cambodia. We then had a fantastic lesson by Andy Lakin- Hall on
how to make water rockets, all in preparation for the Summer Fayre. Andy is so enthusiastic and passionate about his hobby it is infectious. We ended the session going out on the recreation ground where he launched his rocket a few times. Betty Saunders led a fun filled Bingo afternoon and the month ended with a fabulous talk by Lesley Hinks, ‘Tales out of School’ when she told us of some of her experiences as a teacher.
In July we have an outing to Meades in Lake St for tea by kind invitation of Jan Whiter; a presentation by Pete & Gill Jilks ‘Cruising Through History’ about their trip up the Nile and we end with our final meeting of the year when we will have a cream tea and home grown entertainment.
Holiday at Home is now fully booked although we do have a waiting list for all activities. The Summer Fayre is going to be a great day on Saturday 20th July. We have numerous stalls booked and loads of entertaining events. Prizes for the raffle include a kindle and a case of 12 bottles of wine. A date to put in your diaries.
Our charity shop continues to blossom. Every day we are getting some wonderful donations and many visitors arrive from near and far. The atmosphere is fantastic with a number of younger volunteers involved. The window displays are superb and are changed regularly to catch the eye of passers-by!
We finish for the summer on Friday 19th July. Holiday at Home takes place during the following week and there will be a couple of sessions of exercise classes at the Village Hall during August on Wednesday 7th and 21st from 11.00-12.0. Please just turn up if you would like to try some activities. The cost will be £4 for an hour followed by refreshments. The Volunteer Driver Scheme continues throughout the summer break depending on availability of drivers, and some of the therapists will be having appointments. For the above and any emergencies please call the office on 853021.
We have had to take the decision not to accept any more members from outside of the village at the moment as our membership now stands at 355. Care of the individual is at the heart of al that we do and this could be lost if we have too many members. We have therefore created a waiting list for those outside the parish so people can apply but wait till there is a vacancy.
It has been a wonderful year for Rotherfield St Martin is so many ways. It has been so encouraging to read back all the reports from last September just to see how much we have achieved and how much fun we have had. We are always grateful for the support we get from the community, friends and well-wishers. We are looking forward to starting our 9th year in September with a continuation of our present programmes and some new ones.
We wish everyone a very happy and…..hopefully, sunny break.
