The Scramblers

The Scramblers is RSM’s guided walking group, who will meet on the first Tuesday of the month between April and October, to enjoy a gentle ramble in the countryside. Walks will be about 2 – 4 miles long, depending on terrain, and will take about 90 minutes to complete at a comfortable pace with rests.  This is a new club so we will adjust our outings when we know what participants enjoy and can manage.

We will aim to meet near a pub or cafe so that those who wish, may stay on for refreshments after their walk.

In winter months, weather permitting, we may suggest more urban walks, for example around London or Brighton.

Where: Various locations – walks will be published below.

When:  First Tuesday of the month during the summer. We’ll aim to meet at the starting point at 10.30am.

What To Bring: We recommend sturdy shoes such as walking boots or similar, a bottle of water, an energy bar or a banana, suncream and a hat and a pac-a-mac for the inevitable shower! You may wish to bring a stick or walking poles if you need them.

Cost: £5 per walk payable at booking.  Lunch and refreshments are at your own discretion.

Booking:  There are 10 spaces on each group walk and you can book by ringing the office, Payment will be taken at time of booking.

Bad Weather Policy: Obviously, living in England, we are at the mercy of the weather. Therefore RSM reserves the right to cancel walks at short notice in case of poor weather conditions.

Cancellations Policy:  We would appreciate it if you could let us know in advance if you have to cancel your place as we would like to offer it to someone else.  We will reimburse your £5 fee.  Likewise, if RSM cancels the walk you shall be reimbursed.

Transport: Unfortunately we cannot offer transport to the venue until after government restrictions are lifted.  Hopefully we will be able to arrange car shares after 21st June 2021.

Date: Tues 1st June 2021
Walk: Arlington Reservoir, Arlington.

Distance: 2.5km circular walk – about an hour’s walk.

Description: This first walk is flat and quite straightforward with opportunities to stop and sit on the way around the water.

There is a refreshments kiosk & toilets available at the car park, and there are a few picnic tables available.

The car park is pay and display and charges about £1 for 2 hours.

Nearby is The Old Oak Pub which has a garden, for those who wish to book a table for lunch.
